Frequently Asked Questions

Our FAQ’s cover the most common questions about using the templates - from staging files and database connections to setup, compatibility, and refunds. It’s a quick reference to help you get started and make the most of your dashboards.

Yes, but because our products are digital downloads, refunds are limited to specific cases:

  • Technical issues → If the file is corrupted or cannot be accessed.
  • Duplicate purchase → If you accidentally purchased the same product more than once.
  • Incorrect product → If you received a different dashboard than the one ordered.

Refund requests must be made within 7 days of purchase by contacting us at brigitta@powerb-i.com with your order number and proof of purchase.

Non‑Refundable Items

  • Downloaded products (unless one of the exceptions above applies).
  • Sale items and gift cards.

EU Customers   If you are located in the EU, you have the right to cancel your digital purchase within 14 days unless the download has already begun. By downloading the product, you waive this right.

Templates are built for Power BI Desktop (Nov 2025 or later).

  •  Power BI Desktop (Free) → All our dashboards are delivered as .pbix files, which open directly in Power BI Desktop. This app is free to download from Microsoft, and no license is required to use it locally.
  • Sharing & Publishing → If you want to publish dashboards to a workspace and share them with colleagues or clients, you’ll need a Power BI Pro or Premium license, depending on your organisation’s setup.

  • Power BI Dashboard Template (.pbix) – Fully built dashboard ready to connect to your data.
  • Setup Guide (.pdf) – Step‑by‑step instructions for installation and configuration.
  • Measure Documentation (.pdf) – Explanation of all defined DAX measures, so you can understand, adapt, and extend them with confidence.
  • Sample Data (.xlsx) –  Excel staging file provided with predefined column names that match the DAX code in the templates. Connect, paste, or export your company’s data into this format, and the dashboards will run instantly.
  • ReadMe File (.txt) – Quick start notes, version details, and support information.

  • Unzip  → Extract the ZIP file you’ve purchased. Each dashboard comes in its own folder with the .pbix, theme, dataset, and documentation.
  • Open Template  → Open the .pbix file in Power BI Desktop. It loads with the provided sample data, and the matching theme is already applied.
  • Plug & Play  → Add your data to the provided Excel staging files (sample data), or connect to your database (ensuring column names match the format used in the DAX code).
  • Publish  → Save the file and click Publish to your Power BI Workspace. Review and share the live report with your teams and/or clients.

Absolutely. Change layouts, colours, themes, and add/remove visuals.

No - the templates include built‑in measures, so you can use them straight away without writing any DAX yourself. Each measure is already set up to calculate correctly once your data is connected.

Plus, Measure Documentation (.pdf) is included with your purchase. This guide provides:

  • Measure explanations → Non-technical descriptions of what each measure calculates.
  • Business context → Why the measure matters and how it supports decision‑making.
  • Dependencies → Clear notes on which tables, columns, or other measures are referenced.
  • Measure folder mapping → Shows exactly which folder each measure belongs to, making navigation inside the model simple and organised.

Yes - if you connect directly to a database, your column names must match those used in the DAX code.

If that’s not practical, simply use the Excel staging file provided. It already has the predefined column names, so you can connect, paste, or export your company’s data into this format and the dashboards will run instantly - no need to rewrite measures.

Advanced users can still import SQL tables into Power BI and rename columns in Power Query to match the expected format.

A staging file is a provided Excel file with predefined column names that match the DAX code in the templates. Simply connect, paste or export your company’s data into this format, and the dashboards will run instantly -  no need to rewrite measures.

For advanced users, it’s also possible to connect directly to a database. In that case, you’ll just need to adjust the column names in Power Query so they match the expected format.
